Sounds reasonable, at least as a short-term solution. I believe that,
as soon as the gcj runtime is released and some version of egcs is
released with gcj support, its ABI will freeze, and, no longer having
to aim at a moving target, we'll have the choice of modifying to Kaffe
to support it, if we don't manage to get the patches included in the
official distribution. Meanwhile, requiring a patch for gcj is fine.
