Note, though, that if Linux gives you spurious wakeups in this way,
we can't implement timeouts at all with the simple check-wait-check-timeout
scheme. Instead, we must record the timeout as an absolute value, and
check everytime we return from read whether time has advanced far
enough that it's time to time out.
Maybe that's the more robust way of doing it anyway?
Should I try that?
