Yes, I think the compatibility version is what we'd be after.
I understand that it won't be part of the classpath distribution, although
I can only speculate why not. (Maybe because they don't want to assign
a copyright to the FSF? I wouldn't be surprised.)
As an aside, Matt Welsh's work is DARPA-funded as part of their active
networks program. But you know Brewer (I assume: I'm referring to Inktomi
here.)
Also, what are the current plans for the next release?
Or maybe should I ask what are the current plans for a merge from TVT?
What I would like to do is to call for volunteers for testing. Many people
are interested in getting one or more applications they've written or with
which they work to work with Kaffe (Jigsaw, JServ, tcllang, ICQ, Sable,
Jacob, you name it.)
I could whip up a webpage and "assign" people to applications.
By assign I mean that I put their name (names) on there and stay in contact
with them so that we can be sure that they've tested the prerelease kaffe
with "their" application. Of course, more than one person can deal with a
given application.
We can also include the public testsuites (japhar's & mauve in there) and
keep a tab on their status. We can also include Sun stuff such as Sun's
javac or rmi or JSDK2.0 (servlets), plus some of the stuff that Sun releases
as "100% pure Java" which we should be able to run.
Along the issue of webpages: I would really like to get a "call for
volunteers" out there, that explains what Kaffe is, how you contribute,
what projects there are to be had, etc. In fact, I think we need a FAQ.
