This is no different from a rule such as
foo: bar
without a rule defining how to build bar. People can (and usually
will) make mistakes even if you don't give them powerful tools. In
fact, without meta-tools, they're much more likely to make mistakes
that go undetected.
I don't understand why you're so defensive about automake and libtool.
I managed to completely re-create all the Makefile and shared library
inteligence that had evolved in Kaffe along a few years in about two
weeks. Can't you see any value in this?
