I am not at all surprised by this.
Instead of having to deal with such upgrades in the build environment
(which are usually simple because OS distributions take great care to
not break their basic tools), we now have to
+ hope that somebody fixes the metatool to work with the new versions.
(This fix is not at all automatic, especially for projects that have
traditionally not been welcoming to the use of GNU tools)
+ debug the fixed version of the metatool for the specific build environment
in which we use it.
More complexity and effort for what pay-off?
