this sounds really interesting, I'm writing right now a compiler where
source files are just XML documents. The compiler can output an archive
where the binary part has bytecode and the symbol table is in XML
format...

By the way, is there a clean way to retrieve the line number in the
source file where a given XML element resides (or, even better, the
extent from-to of the element) once the DOM-like tree is built?
