[xml] libxml-1.7.3 problem

It seems that libxml-1.7.3 does not handle xml with a comment before the
body, whereas libxml-1.0.0 handles it correctly; e.g.,
<?...?>
<!-- .. -->
<body> ... </body>
returns text nodes ok in V1.0.0 but not in V1.7.3
